International rotordynamics experts gathered in Lahti

The 12th IFToMM International Conference on Rotordynamics brought together 230 leading researchers, industry experts, engineers and students from around the world in Lahti on June 22-26, 2026. The conference focused on the latest developments and future directions in rotordynamics and the dynamic behaviour of rotating machinery.

The conference was organised by an international committee of experts in the field of mechanical engineering and rotordynamics, with LUT University's Professor Jussi Sopanen serving as Chair and Professor Emil Kurvinen from the University of Oulu as Vice-Chair. The organizing team included esteemed personnel from academia and industry leading companies.

Five days of knowledge sharing and international encounters

The conference programme offered keynote talks, technical sessions and opportunities for networking and exchange between academia and industry. The programme also included a welcome reception at Sibelius Hall, while optional visits to industry and university facilities offered participants further opportunities to explore local expertise.

The scientific programme covered a broad spectrum of themes related to rotating machinery. Topics ranged from bearings, vibration control, dynamic analysis and stability to condition monitoring, fault diagnostics and life prediction. Emerging technologies also featured strongly, with sessions addressing digital twins, artificial intelligence and machine learning.

By bringing together expertise from research and industry, the conference provided an international platform for sharing new research, discussing technological developments and strengthening connections within the global rotordynamics community. Accepted and presented full papers will be published as conference proceedings in Mechanisms and Machine Science (Springer Nature), extending the knowledge shared in Lahti beyond the conference itself.
